Streetwear and Shower Makeup

What do these two things have in common??

I was talking to my boyfriend this week, and we were laughing about a word game that we played. We discussed the irony of liking and buying “streetwear” while being people who live mainly on the internet, resulting in what we called no-wear.

The term No-wear is a form we coined to mock the fact that nowadays, as we’ve been trying to understand the meaning of clothes more than just loving them, we realize that sometimes we buy specific outfits and end up not even being able to use them more than 3x a year.

We work at home, don’t party much, and even sometimes end up working on the weekends, not having time to go out.

So, if you go out around 2 times a week, how are you going to have a gigantic closet and try to wear all the things that you bought?

The same happens to me when it comes to makeup.

I love TikTok (sometimes it’s more than love, it’s an addiction), and most of the content that I consume involves people doing reviews, unboxing, makeup tricks, skincare tips, etc. I get very influenced by that, but I try to distance myself from it.

Sometimes we find ourselves with 10 products in our Sephora shopping cart, that new blush, that new lip gloss, the new hair care product, but do we really want more?

I often get excited by a new product that everyone on the internet is excited about. I look for reviews, how much it costs, when it will be available, but I end up not buying it.

Why? Because probably there is no use for it. I try to keep my makeup collection to 1 or 2 bags because if I let myself buy the things I want, at the end of the day, I won’t even use those products enough to find out if I like them or not.

That’s where Shower makeup comes in

A term used by people on the internet for when you do a full face of makeup with no intention to go out, just something that you will take off in the shower. It allows you to feel free and go crazy, after all, no one will see you in that look.

And I have been seeing people do these makeup hauls weekly with tons of products. They try all of the products together and always disclose, “Guys, this is totally a shower makeup situation, ok?” and I wonder, does it get to be more than that? Do these people actually get to use all of their things?

That’s why I feel so loved by an influencer when they disclaim in their content things like, “I have this many products because it’s my job. I have to try things so I can help you find the one that matches your needs.” It’s refreshing to see someone acknowledge that it’s not normal to have everything that’s new.

That’s a practice that I see more often with perfume influencers. I believe it’s less accepted as normal for you to have more than 1 or 2 perfumes to use every day (or it used to be, but I think TikTok is making sure to change that).

And I say all that but at the same time dream about my dream collection of clothes.

When we love something like makeup and fashion, how much love and consumption is healthy? Do people care about wearing the things that they buy? Or has that love and desire to have things surpassed the wanting to use it? And do you really need to have 30 handbags, 100 shoes, 200 liquid blushes, and 20 foundations? Or can you work it out with less?

A very important thing that I’ve come to understand is that I can’t let my things take up more space in my house than me. I have to be able to organize my things where they belong.
